Booking & Scheduling
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for spring field trips, summer reading programs, and fall school dates, as availability fills quickly.
How do we book a program?
Booking starts with submitting an inquiry or booking form. Once details are confirmed, you’ll receive next steps for securing your date.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes for birthday parties, a deposit is typically required to hold your date. Final payment details will be shared during the booking process. For organized groups, we do not require a deposit, full payment is expected the day of the program.
What if we need to reschedule?
We understand that things happen! Rescheduling policies depend on notice and availability. Please contact us as soon as possible if changes are needed.
Do you have a physical location to visit?
We are an outreach company, this means we come to your location. We do host homeschool classes out of my home in Slidell. We are not open for the general public to come to.
Programs & Animals
Is this a petting zoo?
No. Nature on the Geaux offers educational wildlife programs, not a petting zoo.
Our programs focus on learning, conservation, and respectful interactions with animal ambassadors.
What types of animals do you bring?
Animal ambassadors may include reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and invertebrates.
Animals are selected based on the program type, audience age, and animal welfare considerations.
Can children touch or hold the animals?
In some programs, children may have guided, educator-supervised opportunities to gently touch or hold select animal ambassadors. Interaction opportunities vary based on the age of the group, animal welfare, and safety considerations.
Not all animals are touchable, and handling is never guaranteed. All interactions are intentionally guided by the educator to ensure a safe, respectful experience for both students and animals.
Are your animals well cared for?
Absolutely. Animal welfare is a top priority.
All animal ambassadors receive regular veterinary care, enrichment, and appropriate housing, and are handled only when it is safe and appropriate.
Safety & Logistics
Do programs need to be held indoors?
Yes — for the comfort and safety of both animals and participants, live animal programs must be held indoors when temperatures are above 90°F or below 65°F.
What space do you need for a program?
Most programs require:
An indoor space
Enough room for participants to sit comfortably
A table or two for animal habitats and materials
Specific needs will be shared before your visit.
Are animals ever left unsupervised?
No. Animals are always supervised and handled only by the educator unless otherwise instructed during guided interaction.
