About Tanee
Hi! I’m Tanee Janusz, founder of Nature on the Geaux, and I’ve been an environmental educator and skilled animal keeper for over 25 years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Earth & Environmental Sciences from the University of New Orleans, and my career has been shaped by hands-on work with some incredible education and conservation organizations.
My professional experience includes time with the Audubon Nature Institute, INFINITY Science Center, the University of New Orleans Coastal Education & Research Facility, and the Louisiana Nature Center. These roles allowed me to blend animal care, environmental science, and public education into engaging, meaningful learning experiences.
I currently serve on the board of directors for the Louisiana Master Naturalist of Greater New Orleans, where I chair the Communications Committee. I also teach specialized workshops for new Master Naturalists, including programs on Atlantic Blue Crab fisheries (Callinectes sapidus) in Lake Pontchartrain and urban wildlife education at City Park.
In addition to in-person programming, I teach live online classes through Outschool, where I encourage curiosity, scientific thinking, and a deeper appreciation for animals among learners around the world.
My goal—whether I’m teaching in a classroom, at a festival, or online—is to help people of all ages form meaningful connections with wildlife and nature, both locally and globally.
Nature on the Geaux is proudly run by me, with support from my family. Many of our animal ambassadors are rescues or rehomed pets and are deeply loved members of our care. You may occasionally meet my 19-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn, and at larger public events, my husband Scott often joins us as well.
