Environmental Education Programs
Hands-On Nature Discovery — With or Without Live Animals
Nature on the Geaux brings the interactive learning of a nature center directly to your school or group—no field trip required.
These guided, educator-led programs are designed for schools, homeschool groups, Scout troops, libraries, camps, and community organizations. Programs combine hands-on investigations, interactive activities, engineering challenges, and environmental science concepts that encourage curiosity, observation, and problem-solving.
Programs can be booked:
as a science-focused experience without animals
or with optional live animal ambassadors that connect to the program theme when appropriate
This flexibility allows schools and organizations to choose the experience that best fits their space, audience, and goals.
How These Programs Work
Environmental Education Programs are flexible and can be scheduled in multiple formats depending on your group size, goals, and available space.
Single-Group Experience
One classroom, homeschool group, or Scout troop participates in a full, in-depth investigation centered around a specific theme.
Rotation-Style Experience
Multiple groups rotate through shorter sessions—ideal for:
School-wide STEM days
Homeschool co-op days
Scout events or badge workshops
Library programs
Camps and community events
Wildlife Exploration Stations
Our Explore & Rotate program transforms your space into a mini traveling nature lab with multiple interactive wildlife stations designed to keep students actively engaged.
This program supports science standards while combining movement, observation, inquiry, and hands-on learning experiences.
Included With This Option
Digital student “Animal Encounter Books” (1 printable copy per student)
Teacher answer guide
Multiple interactive wildlife stations
Live animal ambassador encounter
Optional hands-on interactions when appropriate
Activity-Based Environmental Investigations
These hands-on programs use models, experiments, engineering challenges, and guided exploration to help learners understand ecosystems, conservation, engineering, and environmental change.
-
A hands-on exploration of how water, sediment, storms, and human activity shape coastlines and wetlands.
Using a density tank and interactive models, learners investigate:
Freshwater vs. saltwater and estuaries
Sediment movement and land-building
Barrier islands and coastal protection
Storm surge and flooding
Pollution movement in water systems
Especially well-suited for coastal communities, but engaging and relevant for learners everywhere.
Optional wetland or aquatic-themed animal ambassadors may be included.
-
Travel back in time as learners explore fossils, prehistoric life, and the science of fossilization.
Participants investigate real fossils and replica biofacts while learning about:
Fossil formation
The geological time scale
Ancient ecosystems
Extinction and adaptation
Animals with prehistoric traits that still exist today
Learners will also participate in a hands-on fossil dig and take home their own fossil discovery.
Optional live animal ambassadors may be included to showcase modern animals with ancient adaptations.
-
Discover the importance of wetlands and the wildlife that depends on them through hands-on exploration and environmental investigation.
Participants explore:
Wetland ecosystems
Native wildlife and adaptations
Food webs and habitats
Human impact and conservation
Why wetlands are important for water quality and storm protection
Learners may investigate biofacts, meet native species, and create a take-home wetland-themed keepsake necklace.
Optional live animal ambassadors may be incorporated to highlight wetland ecosystems and conservation connections.
-
Participants become junior environmental scientists as they explore how water quality impacts wildlife, wetlands, and human communities.
Through hands-on investigations and interactive demonstrations, learners may explore:
Water testing and observation
Pollution and runoff
Watersheds and wetlands
Bioindicators and ecosystem health
Water filtration engineering challenges
Optional live animal ambassadors may be incorporated to help demonstrate ecosystem connections and aquatic habitats.
-
People have changed the landscape to make travel easier—but how does that affect animals?
Learners use the engineering design process to design and test wildlife crossings, helping model animals safely cross roadways while exploring conservation, problem-solving, and human impact on ecosystems.
Optional animal ambassadors may be added to discuss habitat fragmentation and wildlife movement.
-
Learners explore rainforest ecosystems through sensory activities, discussion, and hands-on exploration.
Participants identify everyday products that come from rainforests, learn about endangered rainforest animals, and discover simple actions they can take to help protect these vital ecosystems.
Optional rainforest-themed animal ambassadors may be included.
-
Nature has inspired human inventions long before we even realized it.
In this hands-on program, learners explore biomimicry—how people study plants and animals to solve real-world problems. From Velcro to high-speed trains, students discover how nature’s designs have influenced human innovation.
Participants complete a short engineering challenge inspired by natural adaptations while practicing creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving.
Optional animal ambassadors may be included to showcase real-life adaptations.
